Spring Festival Of Vasant Panchami.

Spring Festival Of Vasant Panchamil
Author : Bhavya Chhibber
Vasant Panchami is the festival that celebrates the arrival of spring season. It is observed on the fifth (Panchami means 'fifth') day of the Indian calendar month of Magha, by Hindus and Sikhs. Vasant Panchami is also known as Basant Panchami, Saraswati Pooja or Shree Panchami.
For many, Vasant Panchami is the festival dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, who is the Goddess of knowledge, language, music and all arts. The season also celebrates the ripening of yellow flowers of mustard crop on the agricultural fields, which is also considered to be the favorite color of Goddess Saraswati.
In Punjab, Vasant Panchami (pronounce as 'Basant' Panchami) is celebrated as the Basant festval of Kites. Children buy 'Dor' and 'Patang' (Kite) for the sport. People also dress in yellow colored attires and share yellow colored snacks and sweets. Some even make yellow rice with saffron, as a special feast.
This year, Vasant Panchami will fall on February 16. I look forward to celebrate it with my family and friends.
Thank you.
