Air bags are very important. As without them accident deaths

The air bag was invented long time ago by Peter Florjančič but since then it has been

through many changes. These changes were made to increase accuracy,

timing and safety. Some major changes were change in trigger mechansims and

chemicals. Air bags will inflate when on accident a large amount of force is generated.

When crash sensor gets a signal of car crash it send electricity that then makes guanidine nitrate tun to gas

then air bag inflates. The inflation takes place in 2-3 milliseconds and is inflated till 100 milliseconds.

When your head hits the air bags it deflates a bit to slow down the speed of movement.

Modern technoligies uses MEMS sensors. Which is a advanced control unit. That is capacitant based

method. There is ecu (electronic control unit) which take input from wheel speed sensors gyroscopes

brake pressure sensor and also seat occupancy sensor. To send signal to

trigger the air bags. But in olden days it air bags used ball and tube sensor in which there was

a ball that was in force of two magnets to make it still and after a car crash the ball moved

to a position where it completed a circuit that then sent electricity to the chemical that

inflated airbags. But however there was a issue in this design. That was, if there

was pithole it would still trigger.
